Introduction

The weight of the structure is determined initially on the design concept, and is updated at several intervals during the design process. Each time the weight is calculated, the margin for error should be reduced.

The knowing the weight of a structure during design is important for several aspects of the project:

• Fabrication Costs
• Installation
• Foundation Design

The weight calculated should consider the following conditions:

• Dry (in Air)
• Submerged
• Operating

Parallel to the weight, the centre of gravity is also calculated.
This is used during foundation and lifting assessment.

The WTO is generally conducted at the following design stages :

• Conceptual design phase
• Initial detail design
• Completion of the design calculations
• Upon completion of the Drawings
